When Lightning Strikes

Welcome to Whiskey Creek- Heart of the Gold Country! Simon O'Neal's causing trouble again. And it's up to Gail DeMarco to stop him. Gail DeMarco left Whiskey Creek, California, to make a name  for herself in Los Angeles. Her PR firm has accumulated a roster  of A-list clients, including the biggest box office hit of all- sexy and unpredictable Simon O'Neal. But Simon, who's just been through a turbulent divorce, is so busy self-destructing he won't listen to anything she says. She drops him from her list-and he retaliates by taking the rest of her clients with him. Desperate to save her company, Gail has to humble herself by making a deal with Simon. The one thing he wants is custody  of his son, but that's going to require a whole new image.  He needs to marry some squeaky-clean girl who'll drag him  off to some small, obscure place like Whiskey Creek.... Gail's the only one he can trust. She agrees to become his wife-reluctantly. But she isn't reluctant because he's too hard to like.  It's because he's too hard not to love

I flat out loved this book! at first I had a bit of a hard time following the fast paced world of Public relations in Hollywood. But within a few chapters I was hooked. The characters of Simon and Gail are the true essence of work relationships changing. It was so fun to watch them enter into a contract, see what's out there and then change their relationship. The one thing I had a hard time with was Simon's Ex wife. I really wish he would have shared more with Gail on what was happening there and how it all went down. What a jerk that woman is! The life they built for themselves up in Whiskey Creek and the house were all things written so well I could picture them in my mind. These factors make for a great romantic read and a fun one!

Confessions of an Angry Girl

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions, #1)

ROSE ZARELLI, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make...
1. I’m livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I’m allowed to be irate, don’t you?
2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating
a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.
3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the
time. (Mars is red and “seeing red” means being angry—get it?)
Here are some other vocab words that describe my life:
Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don’t know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)
                                                   (Sorry. That was rude.)

Well Rose our self proclaimed Angry Girl has a whole lot on her plate. Her father was killed working as a corespondent in the war. He brother is off to college and not really interested in home anymore, and her mother is in a loss bubble. High school is a new and sometimes scary world. When your best friend falls in with the cheerleaders and the enemy. Tracey's involvement with cheer leading adds some angst when she is befriended by Regina the  mortal enemy. Jamie is a unconventional love interest for Rose. He has a girlfriend,Regina who he carries an unsteady relationship with and yet he kisses Rose. Can you see how this can all make one angry? I love the characters and the vocabulary used in the book. But I felt a bit angered myself at the way the book is left. There are no conclusions and everything is left hanging in many story lines. I know this is a ploy to draw me in to book # 2. I just prefer an ending with a cliffhanger to a drop.

China's Goodwill Ambassador- Tai Shan the Panda

China’s Goodwill Ambassador-Tai Shan the Panda

China's Goodwill Ambassador, Tai Shan the Panda is a mischievous four year-old panda, a descendant of the first panda pair given as gifts from the Chinese people to the American people in 1972. He is a popular and beloved sight for children visiting the National Zoo in Washington, DC. All is well until he discovers he must leave the zoo and go alone to Sichaun province, China. With mixed feelings he learns from his parents that he must go to help save endangered baby pandas. Tai Shan also learns the meaning of a goodwill ambassador as he says goodbye to all his friends and travels on the Bamboo Express to China. He is daring, friendly, and outgoing, and his courage is constantly tested through some great adventures. Combines fact and fiction based on the true story of the real Tai Shan.

C's Review-aww Tai Shan is so cute. He is a friendly Panda and gets into some adventure. But he still finds the baby pandas like he is asked. I like the way he makes friends with the other zoo animals.

Moms' review- this is a really cute kids book, with a great story of how we can help others. I love the explanations of an ambassador from Tai Shan's parents and the selfless way that they all approach his time in China. For me though the illustrations were a bit off at one point it felt to me like the picture of Tai Shan was cut and pasted into the illustration. With kids books I feel the pictures tell the story just as much as the words and I'd love to see these a bit more fluid!

The Lovesick Cure

The Lovesick Cure

What do you do when your groom gets cold feet?
For Jesse Winsloe, the answer is clear: head into hiding. Single again laid off from work, Jesse flees Onery Cabin to lick her wounds her ancient aunt Will—a Granny woman with the secret to healing the lovelorn.
Sure, Onery Cabin may be right out of Hollywood’s Lifestyles of the Poor and Hillbilly, but Marrying Stone Mountain has its charm—including the local physician’s assistant, Piney Baxley, a past recipient of Aunt Will’s pungent “heartbreak poultice.”
Between folk remedies and a “no strings attached” romance, Jesse is beginning to think she’s found her own brand of lovesick cure—because there’s nothing like a pinch of confidence and a dash of attraction to mend a broken heart.

Jesse Winsloe is a heart broken girl, and for good reason her Fiance swindled her out of a job and his heart all in one full swoop. When she finds herself facing them over and over again the determination to leave town for a bit is an easy one. Jesse heads off to Marrying Stone in the Ozarks. The location of this book relates so well to the story and adds to it in many ways. Jesse's aunt Will lives in Marrying stone and is there to help her mend her broken heart, in an unconventional and smelly way!  Her niece Camryn is a fun character as a teenage girl who is trying to find what she wants out of life, although her methods at getting it may not be the best ones.
But the best character is the handsome physicians assistant Piney. Something about this man just gets under my skin and makes his so likable to me! Is it the way he cares for his town, or raises his teenage son, or jumps in with both feet. I can't put a label on it but I love him and assure that you will too!

The Stone Girl

Title: Stone Girl
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Pub Date: August 28th , 2012

The Stone Girl

She feels like a creature out of a fairy tale; a girl who discovers that her bones are really made out of stone, that her skin is really as thin as glass, that her hair is brittle as straw, that her tears have dried up so that she cries only salt. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t hurt when she presses hard enough to begin bleeding: it doesn’t hurt, because she’s not real anymore.

Sethie Weiss is hungry, a mean, angry kind of hunger that feels like a piece of glass in her belly. She’s managed to get down to 111 pounds and knows that with a little more hard work—a few more meals skipped, a few more snacks vomited away—she can force the number on the scale even lower. She will work on her body the same way she worked to get her perfect grades, to finish her college applications early, to get her first kiss from Shaw, the boy she loves, the boy who isn’t quite her boyfriend.Sethie will not allow herself one slip, not one bad day, not one break in concentration. Her body is there for her to work on when everything and everyone else—her best friend, her schoolwork, and Shaw—are gone.

When you first meet Sethie the main character of this story you know there is going to be some drama and heartbreak. Sethie spend her time with her "boyfriend" Shaw but in reality this relationship isn't what she thinks it is. I see this as a common problem in young love. One person sees more in the relationship than is there. Adding into the mix Janey who started out as Shaw's friend and became so much more to Sethie. First Janey teaches her a secret that molds and delivers the eating issues that Sethie already experiences. then Janey turns on the light in her relationship and eventually the light to life for Sethie. Janey is a fantastic supporting character in the book.
Sethie is quite the interesting character! I absolutely love her descriptions of things related to her weight. they may not all be very politically correct, and many are in my eye harmful to her self esteem, but the way the author writes them is very eye opening and adds a lot to her as a character. My heart goes out to Sethie and also to her mother. There are a lot of factors in this story that keep it intriguing and fun.

Pushing the Limits

What if the last person you should fall in love with is the only one who can save you?

"I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise."Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. "You didn't do that-did you. It was done to you?" No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked. The room tilted...
No one knows what really happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of the horrible night that changed her life forever.
But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And now Echo has to ask herself just what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again...

Being a teenager has to be one of the hardest times of ones life, at least it was for me. For our Main character Echo it is even more brutal. Echo is living with a past that everyone thinks she has and a reality that she cannot remember. Echo doesn't even seem to really want to remember when we first meet her. When the ever hunky Noah enters her life things begin to change a little. Noah is what I first consider a bad boy, but in reality, he has the largest heart and some hard circumstances himself! Really both of these teens and some of the friends in their life have been through the ringer.

Echo lives now with her father and step mother, soon to be new baby and a sense that her step mother is revolving the world around herself! It only adds some oddity to the book that her step mother was once a teenage babysitter in the house. ICK I could have done without that piece and still felt great angst from Echo about the new woman in dad's life.  Noah is in the foster care system, in a sense.. as he is about to turn 18 and graduate out, but his heart lies with his two little brother that he wants to get custody of. As the story progresses and we see Echo and Noah open up one another I cannot help but feel love, hope and fear for both of them. so many things dangling in the air that could end in triumph or heartbreak. I'll let you discover them on your own but you won't be disappointed if you read this book, that's for sure!
